Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at admin@llfootclinic.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No, you do not need a doctor’s referral to visit a Chiropodist. Chiropodists are primary healthcare providers in Ontario specializing entirely in foot and lower limb health. You can book an appointment directly with us at any time. However, if you are planning to claim your custom orthotics through an extended health insurance plan, some insurance companies may require a referral note from a family physician or nurse practitioner before they reimburse you. We recommend checking your specific policy guidelines prior to your visit.

In Ontario, the total cost for custom-made foot orthotics typically ranges between $400 and $600 per pair. This total generally includes the extensive, specialized biomechanical assessment, the 3D gait mapping or casting, the physical manufacturing of the inserts, and the final custom fitting and dispensing appointment. There is no tax (HST) charged on medical devices like custom orthotics or on clinical appointments with a Chiropodist. Custom orthotics are not covered by OHIP, but they are fully or partially covered by almost all workplace extended health insurance plans .

  • Over-the-Counter Insoles ($30–$60): These are mass-produced, generic shoe inserts based on average shoe sizes. They provide basic, temporary cushioning but cannot correct structural imbalances or misalignments.
  • Chiropodist Custom Orthotics ($400–$600): A Chiropodist conducts a detailed medical evaluation of your specific bone structure, joints, and walking pattern. Your orthotics are then precision-milled from raw, medical-grade materials to fit the exact millimeter specifications of your individual feet. They dynamically redirect your body weight to permanently eliminate pain and correct biomechanical issues. Furthermore, insurance providers only cover medical devices prescribed and dispensed by a licensed foot specialist.

Once we complete your 3D digital scan and biomechanical analysis, the manufacturing process typically takes 1 to 2 weeks (7 to 10 business days). The digital blueprints are sent directly to an accredited orthotics laboratory where they are carefully crafted using high-durability materials. As soon as your custom orthotics arrive back at our clinic, we will contact you immediately to schedule your custom fitting and dispensing appointment to ensure they fit perfectly into your daily footwear.
